Finally got the new toy, Browning A-bolt II, matte blue finish, medium bull 24 inch barrel, synthetic (Nicely rubberized) stock. Topped out with a Bushnell Elite 3200 5X15X40.
Fit and finish very nice, slightly front heavy but still comfortable and easy to hall around all day.
Only had time this weekend to spend some time with it at the range, the results were pretty impressive though.
After sighting in (and myself getting over the excitement) it produced consistent 1" groups at 100 yds with no trouble. For some reason I expected a little less recoil, but still in the mild category, and it is equipped with a nice rubber recoil pad.
The only problems encountered were that the magazine, which is removable (kinda nice) from the floorplate, was a bit finicky about the way those fat little cartridges were loaded, although loading from the breach had no problems. The other problem, which could be serious for all afternoon Prairie dawgs, was that the POI seemed to rise an inch or two after 12-15 fairly quick rounds and the barrel heated up pretty good, there are two possibilities here, one that it was me as I was'nt terribly consistent but I think it may have a little barrel bedding problem, although I could drag a folded once dollar bill up to an inch of the junction with the receiver.
Its definately a shooter and I'm very pleased, I'm shooting 95 grain ballistic silvertips right now due to the dual use nature I intend for the gun, will try 55 grain super fast guys when time permits and report back.
Imagine it'll be super for yotes, but expecting a "bit" of fur damage, will report when I get down to Laredo and wack a few!!!
