I just got back from the range, testing the first Tromix AR-15 chambered in .204 Ruger. It shot decent with Hornady 32, 33, and 40 grain bullets, but choked and puked on the 40gr Berger, slinging them into 2". I have never seen one of my guns shoot anything larger than about 1.3" for five at 100. The best load was 26.5gr of 10X behind the 32gr V-Max. Back to back groups ran .44" and .48" fireforming 222 Rem Mag cases. The factory 32gr ammo ran .60" I only fired 120 shots, and past experience has proven that the Pac-Nor barrels really start tightening up after about 200-250 shots. I expect it to shoot 3's with a few more rounds on the barrel. Unfortunately, it was dark and overcast, so my Chrono was tits up. Primers were CCI #41's and all bullets were seated to an OAL of 2.245" I was using my max data for the Tact 20 as a starting point for the .204 fire forming loads and they seemed very mild. Barrel was a 25" Pac-Nor Super Match Stainless, 1:12 twist, .935" diameter. These rifles are available now with a lead time of about 3 weeks. Yeah, it was windy, but I hate to start making excuses like all the gun writers these days. You have all heard it before........ fire forming cases, first time out, windy, not enough time, prototype, pre-production, raining, hungover, 3 shot groups (count the best 2), 5 shot groups (count the best 3)........ I just rip off a quick five shots and measure it up as-is. No excuses if my gun sucks. Scope was a 12x Leupold fixed target.
