Bobcat asked me to post a photo of my Competitor handguns. Top to bottom: 25 Souper (25X308), 338-06 Ackley Improved, 22 K-Hornet and 250 Savage. outcast.homeunix.org/uploads/competitor.gif [/img] The Competitor uses a cannon breech action, similar to the now discontinued Magnum Research Lone Eagle, but that is where the similiarities end. The Competitor does not use a seperate cocking lever as is found on the Lone Eagle and the trigger on the Competitor is fully adjustable and light years ahead of the Lone Eagle. www.competitor-pistol.com/home.html

Hey GH, Thanks for posting those! I am itching to get one made up in a 7-30 Waters and 223....... Now.........we need to start seeing some game taken with these rascals!! I am guessing that more than one deer will find its way to the freezer next season via a Competitor..... I am sure one will find its way into your truck when you come down for your javelina hunt!! Bob
In 2002, I took a turkey with the 22 K-Hornet and a deer with the 250 Savage..........got the 338-06AI and the 25 Souper late in the season this year.....hunted deer with the 25 a couple of times but didn't get a shot.

Bob
The 7-30 would be a waste in a pistol this strong.....a 7-08 is where you need to be!
MaBell
You can be a proud Competitor owner too......simply click on the link in my first post and have your credit card ready! ;D

I bet that 338-06 AI is a handful when you touch one off. Is the recoil manageable?

It's a handful but the brake helps.....I had a 350 Remington mag barrel and the recoil is about the same for both barrels.......you KNOW you have turned something loose when you drop the hammer. ;D

I can imagine! I used to have a Remington 600 in .350, and it was brutal. You couldn't bribe me to shoot a handgun in that caliber.

I bet it is a lot like the 50 BMG Barret I was shooting...the first time I shot it I was .........(spooked).........then after I was soooo comfortable from then on. The brake was VERY effective. The only thing was, you didn't want to be to either side of that thing when it went......tons of concussion, dirt blowing and loud !!! The first shot I made with it was a 600 yard head shot on a standard military OD green head and shoulder target. After that, I was hooked

Joe Nope, it's not like the recoil of a braked 50......I shoot a 50 and it's a hard shove......the 338 is a stout smack right in the palm of my hand....the brake keeps the recoil from really hurting my hand, but the velocity of the recoil is pretty severe. I also shoot a 375 JDJ contender.......it's a full length 444 marlin case necked down to 375.....mine is magna ported and the recoil, even with 270 grain bullets, is less than the recoil of the braked 338-06 AI with 225 grain bullets. The most violent recoiling handgun I have fired was a factory 10" 445 Supermag in a Contender......the first time I fired it, I had a death grip on the forend with my left hand.....figured I could hold the barrel down...... WRONG! When I tripped the trigger, the forend was ripped out of my left hand and the muzzle nearly passed my right ear! After I learned to "ride the recoil" it was very manageable....my wife even shot it! The trick was to just let the recoil happen and let your arms absorb it.......there was no way to resist the recoil, and trying to resist just made things worse! Ed Kirkpatrick of Ed's Contenders (a huge TC dealer) says that the 445 SuperMag is the worst of any factory Contender when it comes to recoil....and I believe him! I have fired lots of big boomers including the 454 and the 500 S&W......that 445 ConTender was by far the worst.....it is plain nasty.....and I love it!!! I sold that particular barrel, but I still have a 12" 445 SuperMag custom barrel from Virgin Valley Custom Guns and a Dan Wesson revlover in 445 to go with it..........

Heeheh...you are one sick puppy I know what you meant about "riding" the recoil though. A friend of mine bought one of the first 454 Casulls in this part of the country.....first time or two I shot it I thought it was awful.....I was at the time a class "A" IPSC shooter, so pistol shooting was nothing new to me, but this thing was UGH...then I learned to just let it go, whle trying to keep the front sight out of my eyebrow After that it wasn't so bad.....

Definately going to need a muzzle brake on that....that necked down .25 would bloody your nose without it
