My new chronograph arrived today and you know the first thing across it was a bolt out of my exocet crossbow......20" 2117 bolt with a 130 grain wasp broadhead and 5" feathers went 269.......a 20" 2117 bolt with a 130 grain wasp and 5" vanes went 259..........
I figured the vanes would be faster????
OK, so vanes are heavier than feathers?....but not much right??? WRONG.....I took a 5" feather and a 5" vane and weighed them on my powder scale
feather 3.5 grains
vane 13.0 grains
Hard to believe using vanes instead of feathers adds almost 30 grains of weight!!!

Y'all are wrong went to the BOW SHOP upon Bobcats ecommendation . Well I treid out a few and shouldn't have done that, I didn't see the Buckmaster G2 but did try the Mathews Q2,LX and a PSE. Now its been over 18 years since I tried shooting a bow and found out that at 10-15 yards I could hit what I was aiming at without a problem. What had turned me off about bows was that everytime I released an arrow the string would SCRAPE my arm raw. Knew that was no good so I stop. If you ever get over to the Bow Shop, talk to Fred (JUST DON'T MENTION BOBCATS NAME ;D) and he will help you out. I was there longer than expected (3hours) looking and learning asking anything I could think of. Once I can try out the G2 then I can decide which bow to buy. So it looks like I might just be bow hunting this season. Thanks alot guys ;D ;D

GonHuntin, Not only are feathers lighter than vanes, but they also "lay down" during the first part of their flight, decreasing drag. Later on, they stand back up to their full profile, and grab more air. IIRC, feathers are faster than vanes (all other factors being the same) out to 30-40yds. Then, the greater drag of the feathers will slow arrow flight, by a significant margin, over vanes. Sooooo, for target shooting out to 50yd, and beyond, vanes are the better option. Inside 30 yd, and for hunting, feathers are the better choice. Of course, this does not take into consideration the durability/weatherproof issue.>>>>>>>>>>Bug.

Not sure if I had them locked but, Fred SHOWED ME THE CORRECT WAY to hold a bow. It made a big difference, no arm burn. In fact I went back over there on saturday and help make a sale to a new guy. I showed and told him everything that Fred told me the day before ;D.
Go figure I'm trying to learn and starting teaching ;D.

LOL! Fred needs to put you on commission! The reason I was asking is if you're hitting your arm, your form is off usually. Man, that hurts, doesn't it?

Yes it does! I went back over to Mesquite Creek to check out the Bowtech bows again and had just about made up my mind to buy a Extreme SD, (went to the car to give myself that extra mintue) and some one offered me a Buckmaster for $450. He wanted to buy a Bowtech, told him I'ld give him a call this evening. Well as you know good things come to those who wait. I went back over to Fred's (had to pick up my mail ;D since I spend so much time there now) show a Mathews LX and I feel in love. Did I buy it no, someone came in wanting to sell a Mathews Ultra2 set up and ready to go for $400. Soon as Fred can get the different cams set up so that it will fit me I'm taking it. The guy is going to buy him a LX as soon as fred could get him one. As luck would have it UPS showed up with the one he was wanting to buy. So soon as I can slip away from the wife I'll pick it up.

Thanks, I spent most of today over there again learning to shoot better and farther. I guess from 20 yards keeping 5 arrows in a 4" group is good . Now I'm looking at all the other goodies that go with bow hunting.
