Hey Kelly, when I was in the Marines we used 10x scopes for everything out to 1000meters. I Use a 6.5-20 for hunting at the ranch where shots can be up to 1200yds.I would say get your a Burris 4.5-14 Fullfield 2 and never look back. That is IMHO.

Kelly, First of all I have a desease in both of my eyes called Kerataconus. It's a degenerative desease where the cornea slowly degernates. I too need all the help optically I can get. I have several "long range" rifles that I use for 800, 900 and 1000yd competitions. All of them with the exception of one wear a 6.5-20 power scope. The only one that does not have a 6.5-20 has a 12-42. The mirrage will dictate what is "too much" power. I have used my 12-42 nightforce on several occasions, but never had it above 30X because of the mirrage. That being said, most LE and Military snipers use a 10X. The most important thing to keep in mind is the quality. In other words don't buy a cheaper scope to get a higher power scope. My favorite is the Leupold LRT 6.5-20. My Nightforce is a great scope, but I don't think I will ever spend that kind of money for a scope again. I can get two of the Leupold LRT's for what I paid for the Nightforce.

To add to a similar question. Are any of using slanted bases? If so by whom. I am looking for a new base to get a farther zero with the scope still being in the center of its usable elevation.

BW depends how far out and what you are shooting. Check out Ken Farrell base or Nightforce 20 moa should be more than enough for you or you can go with the 40 moa ones.

BW,
I use the Leupold Long Range one peice bases on a couple of my rifles. It has a 20MOA slant to it. Additionally, I have a couple of IOR and Lightforce tapered picanty bases. I am pleased with the performance of all of the above mentioned bases.
