I have always been a Leupold fan and all my rifles except 1 is sporting a Leupold. Yet I have read some intersting things about the Burris. Does anyone have any real world testing on this scope?

BW,
There is some info in the 7-08 thread in the rifles forum. GonHuntin used one on his African safari on his 300 Win Mag for plains game. ToddB also chimed in on his experience. My rifles have been wearing the Nikon Monarch's for some time.................but, I will be putting a FF-II 3-9x40 Ballistic Plex on my new 7mm-08 when I get it. They have increased the light transmission on them to equal Nikon's and beat Leupold's.
Hopefully some more folks will chime in......

I have a Burris Signature 2 x 8 on my deer rifle. I don't about "real world testing", but I like the heck out of this Burris. Clear optics (very good at low light conditions and in fog), well designed, rugged construction and holds zero well - And guaranteed for life. I'd put it up against a Loopy VXIII......... If this were American Bandstand, I'd say, nice beat, easy to dance to, I give it a 96.

I have the FF II in 3.5-10 x 50 on my 22-250 and I am real pleased. I have a Leupold Vari X-III w/ the same specs on my .270. When at the range, I can tell a difference, the Leupold is clearer.........BUT when hunting with the Burris, I am nothing but pleased. I am recommending my buddy get one on his next rifle. In the offseason I am going to send the Burris back to them to get the Ballistic Plex put on there, it is $50......
I really like the scope............especially for the price.
Now, I don't know how the 3-9's are functioned, but mine has a focusing deal at the eye end of the scope that I don't really like (it is like binoculars). It is not a big deal, just one function I don't like.
I think you will like it!
I think my next scope is going to be a Black Diamond.......for a 30mm scope, it seems like a steal........especially since their "low end" scope, the FF II, is so good!

I have a 6x18 Burris on my 22-250 and a cheap 6x18 Bushnell on one of my 223's and the cheapo Bushnell is much clearer. I'm reall not that impressed with the Burris, maybe just the scope I have.

Just put one on a 300 WBY and putting another one on a Mauser chambered in 270 Win. Then I need to take them out and chronograph them with my loads so I can get the correct POI for the Ballistic Plex Reticle.

Thanks for the input Bennie. I have been going back and forth for a month or so on trying one out.

Two years ago. I had seven rifles with Leupolds on them. Some had been on certan rifles for over 25 years.
Now I have seven Burris Ballistic Plexs, And Two Horus Visioins for my 1000 yard guns. My Burris Black Diamond has Broken the Lake Charles LA gub club 600 yard record four times. It is mounted on a 300 Win Mag.
If you will take the time to focus a Burris acording to there instructions it will make a big difference.
After 35 years a die hard Leupold man. I will never go back to Leupold. Just my opinion, Nothing more.

Well tell us why you are hooked on the burris over the leupold. I am interested to know. I have never even seen one.
I am always open for new toys. I don't really lean one way or the other on brands. Just what works and mine was always Leupold, it worked well so I bought them.

Bozo, Can I get back to you. I poked a hole in my bladder while doing a Self catheterization. Running a 104 fever.
Just for grins I am trying to get this 58 year old crippled up body, And my off road wheel chair ready to go to the Sniper match in Kingsville this weekend.
I will get back as to why I love Burris scopes so much. Don't mean you will. Just going to point out why I do.

I'm interested in them Burris scopes too. I like the idea of the "posi-loc". Take a look at the interior design of Burris (on their web page) www.burriscompany.com/welcome.htmlI just received my Leupold back from the factory. They said they replaced the objective lens and other parts. Have not tested it yet.

I got my 3-9x40 Matte FF-II Ballistic Plex. I am impressed with the clarity and it's light gathering at dawn. I can't wait to dial it in on the 7mm-08 when I get it set up.
slammy-I would do some more checking on the Posi-Loc. I have never had one.......however, it is my understanding it accounts for a lot of the Burris warranty work. I know GonHuntin had at least one and said he wouldn't get another one......maybe he will chime in. He is my "Burris Guy"!

Bozo. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Had to stay in that Stainless Steel Hotel for a while. I am having to type with a Foley bag strapped to my leg. So please bear with me.
I have some of the high end Burris Black Diamonds. I would rather talk about the 3 ax 9 FF Ballistic Plex like Bobcat just bought. This is the one on my calling rifle, And gets the most use.
The first thing is to set the focus per the instructions.....
My 3 x 9 is on my .243 . The cross hair is set for zero. Using 75 gr V-Max
Line 1= 219 yards Line 2= 329 yards Line 3=417 yards
Now remember this is a $198 scope. Also I was a rock hard, They don't make nothing, But Leupolds fan.
My first hunt was a quick late evening hunt. Just to check things out. My partner had a Zeiss on his rifle. After sitting the stand way to long to see a Coyote. I unloaded the rifle.
About 300 yards out I could make out a Black Cow. I brought up the Burris. Not only could I make out her features. I could split her ear with the crosshairs. My partner brought up his Zeiss and could not see the crosshairs on her body. Much less her ear.
Story# 2 My other hunting partner and I. Have both had Leupold Vari X III on the same rifles since 1982. We vowed we would never take them off. Well off we go towing my two story calling trailor. I have my Burris. He has his VarX III. We have to go through a old rusty gate made out of sucker rod. We traveled about 200 yards past the gate to make our set up. Our only customer showed up in about three minutes.
After about 15 moor minutes of calling. I decided to just enjoy sitting on top of the trailor in the full moon. The top of the trailor is equiped with full rotating shooting benches. So I was just scanning through the Burris. When I came to the old gate 200 yards away. Not only could I see it in the Moon light. I could split the rod with the cross hair. I tapped my friend on the shoulder. I asked him if he could split the sucker rod. He could not see the crosshairs on the gate.
The first friend no longer has a Zeiss on his rifle. The second friend ordered a Burris the next morning.
After 43 years of calling. I don't go changing things just to be doing it. I am sponsored by several call companies, And also some decoy manufactures, But I do not receive one penny from Burris. Hell I don't even have one of there caps.
