Well.... you guys have gone and done it..... I guess I am gonna have to try a Burris Scope. I have been a die hard Leupold customer for a long time... That being said, I also like to form my own opinions. Sometimes it's expensive, but I like having the "first hand" knowledge. If you were building a long range target rifle, that will also be used for long range prairie doggin, what Burris Scope would you put on it. Most of my other rifles have the Leupold LRT 6.5-20. I like the side focus and 30mm tube. Do they make a FFII with the side focus or do I need to look at the Signature or even possibly the Black Diamond line for these features? Most of my sopes have a mil-dot reticle in them, but I am extremely curious about the Balistic plex... maybe the balistic mil-dot would be a good one to try. FYI... when my wife asks me "why in the world are you buying ANOTHER scope?" ... I am gonna blame all of you!!! ;D

Texasshooter - I think the only 30 MM tube made by Burris is the Black Diamond. You can go the Burris website and get some good information. I ordered their brochure and has a whole lot of good information about their scopes.
I really like the way they write about their products. It appeals to the engineer in me.

i have a burris black diamond 4-16 x 50 mm with 30mm tube this scope is so clear and gathers light so well you have to keep an eye on your watch to make sure you dont hunt after legal shooting hours. if you are in the open such as a field or cutover and have a quarter moon or better you dont have to quit hunting at all you can just hunt all night. i like you was a die hard leupold fan for many years i have owned many until i bought my first burris. my first was a fullfield 3-9 x 40 for $159.00 i just wanted a inexpensive scope to put on my .22. then i got to comparing it to my leupolds this scope was as bright or brighter than some of my leupolds that cost three times as much. but the kicker was when i lost one of the caps for the adjustment knobs i called them to see if i could buy a set from them they told me no i could not buy a set but if i would give them my adress they would send me a set for FREE. now that is what i call service. i now own three and from now on that is all i will own. also price is a lot less than a comparable leupold. for instance to get the same scope as my $550.00 black diamond you would have to spend over $1000.00 on a leupold. Well I finally did it. I broke down and ordered the Burris FF II with a lighted Balistic Plex reticle. I figured the upcoming TPP Hog Hunt was as good excuse as any to not ony try my first Burris scope, but also to try a lighted reticle. I have it mounted on my 7mm-08 and I am working up some loads with the Barnes TSX bullet. I am looking forward to giving it a try this weekend.

Well, This scope bette be some kind of imprssive in low ligh situations, cause it aint so impressive in Daylight situations. I never could get a completely clear sight picture at 100yds, especially at the higher powers. At the higher powers only a small part of the center of the scope was in focus. I don't know if I am just spoiled by an adjustable objective or what. This made it extrememly difficult to test the handloads that I am working up with the TSX bullet cause I am not sure that I had the same aim point from round to round. Maybe I got a defective scope out of the box... I don't know.. but so far my experience with Burris is not so good.

The pictures I posted on here a couple of days ago of a wolf and 2 caribou were made possible by 2 rifles that were each equipped with Burris 3X9X40 Fullfield II Ballistic Plex Reticles. Have not had any problems with these scopes as far as gathering light goes. One is mounted on a 300 RUM and the other is mounted on a 300 WBY.

Make sure you focus it exactly as the directions tell you. That may be the problem. I assume you have the eye relief correct.......
The one I had was crystal clear and excellent in low light.
Let us know.....you may have to send it back.
Good Luck

I thought that I did focus it per the directions, but I am going to try it again just to make sure. If I do need to send it back I won't have a chance to until after the Hog hunt so hopfully I didn't focus it correctly!

Hey Shooter what was the verdict on the scope, been waiting for a reply. Tossing between a leupold or burris, have a 6 x 18 burris fulfield and it does the job, but was wondering about the higher powered scopes.
