I have see-through scope mounts on my deer rifle - a remington model 742 30.06 with a Burris Signature scope.
From last season to this one, it was off about 4" from POI. I am wondering if the mounts aren't as substantial as regular mounts.
I don't have posi loc on the Burris but would like some opinions on the see-through mounts. I like the philosphy that if you lose the target in the scope you can pick it up a lot easier in the iron sights than back in the scope again. When the bucks are trotting around during the rut, there is some value there. Or in low light conditions it gives the shooter another advantage he wouldn't have without them.
Most of you guys are more experienced than I am with rifles and scopes so your opinions would be valued.

The experiance I have had with "see-thru" mounts on a friends rifle was not good. The center line of the scope is too far above the center of bore of your rifle. this will accent any problems you might have with your scope set-up. If your crosshairs are not lined up with the bore of the rifle this will be exaggerated in this condition, and introduce more variable in the placement of your head , canting of the rifle, and is also generally so high your stock is not built to put the sight in front of the eye without goosenecking around. If I'm put in a position where I need to use iron sights I pull the scope off, and get it out of the way. I think you would be much better off with a good set of Talley's or Leupold QD's. Good Shooting, MaBell

I have a set of ironsighters on my 7mag and wouldn't trade them for the world. They have been an asset especially when hunting in the New Mexico forest. They took a while to get use to but after that no problem. They have been on my rifle for about 13 years now and I haven't had to resight it.

my opinion is take them off and throw them in the garbage. these mounts are very weak if you grab your scope you can actually bend them. leupold redfield or burris mounts are the best. HUNTER

Thanks for the comments Hunter. I guess my opinion is somewhere between yours and someone that likes them totally.
I have had them on for three years now. Each year just before the season starts I go out and resight them in. As I said in the first post they have been out of POI about 4 inches, which isn't too bad for my purposes. My rifle bangs around in the back of my SUV during the season so some deviations are expected, I guess.
I like the option of being able to go to the iron sights in case I lose the target when it is moving rapidly as I did last year during the second week of the season.
But I don't like having the scope mounted so high over the rifle nor the fact that the mounts are not as durable as other more solid mounts are.
