What made you choose this unit? How did other models compare to it?

:)I have a Magellan 315, and have used the Garmin V. I like the Garmin unit better; it is easier to use.

I have an ancient magellan unit that just needed to be replaced. That is what I told my wife ;-) I really wanted a unit that had good download space, small package and the most important thing was the autoroute feature. I love this as you can enter an address, citie or site and it will calculate the route and give you directions. I really liked the streetpilot, but it was a bit out of my price range and only really offers the added color screen, bit larger display and voice directions. All of which I could do without. The only downfall I have found on the 3,000 miles of traveling is that the included maps do not have 2 track roads. My old magellan did. If anyone knows a map service that is compatible with the garmin adn includes 2 track roads I would appreciate it.

Has anyone modified a garmin cable to use in vehcile with a seperate LCD screen. I know of peope that use the serial cable and a laptop, but I wanted to just get the outputs to an rca connector to use with an indash LCD.

I have the handheld garmin that you can download information/maps into etc. I don't know how to work all that stuff. Its nice to be able to get back to were you started from. I got lost at West Kerr hunting. ( well I couldn't find the gate I stated from because they all looked the same) Kelly G. was there and he had a portable GPS unit and he showed me how he could put a mark there and track back to it. Sure sold me. I used it some on a guided Aoudad hunt hast winter and it does work.
