Bobcat, The Blue Mountains is the only area in WA open to spring bear. WDFW has been talking about other areas, but it has not happened yet. I have asked Rick to put in for a Blue Mountain Spring bear tag. But you have to get lucky and draw a tag. Unlimited tags in the fall. BobR

Rick, you beat me to the trigger by a few seconds,LOL The deadline for applying for spring bear is the first week in March (March 9 last year). You have to buy next years license and tags to be able to apply. Don't forget, Bob

I checked my camera on the way up the mountain. All it is taking pics of is me setting it up. As soon as I leave the lenses are fogging over and freezing up. I picked it up. I have been scouting for a place to put it up high where the weather is much better. But there is no fresh sign up there. My new teaser comes set up to use with 9 volt batteries, but the supplemental instructions say it doesn't work well in cold weather with the 9 volt. And I can vouch that that is absolutely correct. It comes with wiring harnesses to convert it to 6 volt lantern battery or 4 AA rechargeable batteries. I have had very good luck with an older model squeaker in the past attracting cougars and bobcats. Yesterday, I made it through the snow on my favorite logging road to a long hogback ridge that goes clear to the bottom. I rode down there on my new Honda. I have never been down in there in January. I could not believe what I found down in there. Green grass, green vegetation , plenty of browse, in January. Plenty of fresh elk, deer and cat sign. The bottom of these drainages up high is where I need to be calling. It is also where the camera needs to be. I decided to go to town yhis afternoon and get the right batteries. I am getting the camera and teaser charged and ready, and in the morning, I am taking it back up there where it needs to be. Monday, I will start walking and calling these drainages. Rick, if you are bored, head on over. We can park one ATV on top and hunt down to another. There are three drainages that come down toward our house. They are six to eight miles long. It is an all day thing, but walking on the sidehill going down the creeks, stopping every half mile or so to call for an houris not bad at all. Looks like spring in this photo. Green grass 55 * F temp. The creek down in the bottom is the same creek that goes right behind our house six miles down In this pic, I am way down low in a timbered draw that goes down to the creek. Look at the browse. I am on a major elk trail, fresh tracks, pellets. I did not take my rifle and stuff yesterday, because we had rain forecast for the afternoon. At 2:00 PM, the skies got dark, and I could hear the wind howling through the trees way up top as the front blew in. But it was dead calm down in this draw. Browse, sheltered from the weather, no wonder all the deer and elk are down here. I am taking the camera down into this area tomorrow with the teaser. Bob

Rem223pa, I have not been messing with my camera. I brought it home, the weather is just too nasty. When I di set it out for bears, I will make sure it is scent-free. Everything I touch, the bears try to eat. For some reason, they accociate my scent with food. ;D

I know this is an old thread but, if you want a good digital camera, stay away from Olympus. They are not very user friendly. For about $300 you can get a Canon A70. I have one and it takes AWESOME pics. Very easy to use and compact. I sell cameras for a living and this is the one I chose. I have taken it on several vacations and I absolutely love it, I'm even taking it to Munich with me for my honeymoon, instead of a film camera. I may post some pics, if you want to see the quality it produces...let me know.

Hey Spinnie,
You bet.......we would love to see some of your honeymoon photos! ;D
Seriously, when you get a minute go ahead and post a few shots from your Canon. Why don't you start a new thread in this forum about digital cameras instead of posting it here. I think the Posse would value your input.
Good Hunting,
Bob
