Hi All,
I just got a new (to me) Ruger No.1 International in .243 Winchester that I hope to break in on a couple of Hogs during the Posse Hog Hunt in February. The ex-owner stated that it will shoot ¾” at a hundred yards with factory ammo but I don’t use factory ammo so I am asking for some good loads and suggestions on bullet weight and type for killing Hogs.
I am also looking for dies for it and for my 22-250 if I could get them used it would be great, if not then I will probably order Lee Collet type dies when I send for my powder, primers and bullets.
So…. what is your favorite Hog kill’n load for a 243? What is the best powder, bullet, brass & primer? Please keep in mind that the International has a 20” barrel so I’m not looking for it to be a 1,000 yard varminter just deadly within 300 yards.
Thanks to all in advance for your help,
Marcos elalto@cox.net

Hey Elalto,
Here is where I would start. Others may chime in with another approach. For a hog load, I would use the 95 gr. Nosler Partition. You might try H-414 with Win brass and WLR primers. The load range is from 39.0 to 42.0 grs. If you can get to 42.0 grs. you should be at around 3100 fps.
Keep us posted........

for hogs with a 243 I use a 95gr XBT over 43.0grs of H4831sc in a W&W case with a WLR primer for a Vel.2978fps
this is a max load BE VARY CAREFUL
