I am shooting Remington 700 VLS in a 22-250 with 1-14 twist barrel, What should be the best bullet weight for this twist? I know there has to be some of you out there that can help with this, I have almost given up on some of my other boards and just come straight here nowdays! This is my first 22 caliber and I know plenty of you out there shoot them and I'm hoping to save a little money and headache trying to learn from others trials and errors. I will be shooting coyotes and cats and such but I also enjoy sitting down and just punching paper

My 22/250 has 1-14 twist and likes 55gr. Hornady V-Max, or Nosler BT's. It is pushed by a load of W760, with a CCI BR-2 primers. I use Winchester brass, and out of a 26in. barrel my Crony says it is clocking an average of 3,721 fps.
I would warn you to work up your max. load very carefully. As you notice I did not give the amount of powder. It was omitted on purpose. If you have a chronograph you should keep in mind that velocity is an indication of pressure, so keep your velocities within reason. My load is as hot as factory ammo, and shows no sign of primer cratering in my rifle. So keep in mind also that cratering is a poor indicator of pressure. If you need more speed than your 22/250 will produce with a reasonble load,,,, buy a .220 Swift. ;D
Good Shooting and if I can help you in any way send me a PM I would be proud to give you a hand.
Cheers, MaBell

Bluedog: Try the 40grn V-MAX in your 1-14 twist barrel. With this twist rate, stay at 55grn bullets or less. I shoot a full house load of Varget and the 40grn V-MAX into dime size groups. I had a Remington model 7 rebarreled with a 20" #2 countour Douglas premium barrel in 22-250. It also has a 1-14 twist. This is my carry gun for all of my predator hunting. This setup also produces minimal pelt damage with a properly placed shot.

He gets 4040 fps and 1/3" groups at 100 yds.

Your rifle will shoot the 40-55 gr. bullets just fine. Some 1-14 twists will stabilize a 60 gr. bullet. The bullet you load will depend on what you are shooting from paper to prairie dogs or predators........
Good Hunting,

I'm shooting a Rem 700 ADL for my kill it all rifle and if you want good groups it seems to favor the 40 - 55 grain bullets, now the 60 v-max my brother shoots through his 223 (1-9 twist) I tried some through the 250 and well it would hit a coyote at 100 yards but it might be in the butt or the head, he might loose a tail but you could still hit him! I have found for what it's worth the little 40 grain v-max seems to be the food of choice for my 1-14 Remington. I'm kinda stange I use the Reloader 10X powder and am growing very found of it! I could not tell you how fast this round shoots and really don't care! but it will group inside a dime all day long, 33gr. Reloader 10X, 40 grain V-Max, Federal GM210M primer, COL of 2.350. Ask dead Eye bout the results of this load verses woodland creatures, nasty. As always work up you loads! hate to see anyone type one handed.
