Why is this round so intriguing to me? Have been considering a new "tackle box" gun. Interested in the N.A. Arms Black widow, in .22WMR. Then I see that this pistol is available in .17HMR, and it costs less, and the .17 is available in v-max ballistic tips...am I stupid (don't answer that) or is this a viable choice? P.S.---yes, I am aware that you can't reload the .17HMR.

hey spinne,, the strenghts and weakness of the little 17 hmr have been debated elsewhere in this forum but since u posted this i cannot help but respond... if u are gonna use ur tacklebox gun to shoot tackleboxes then the 17 hmr will do just fine......however if u plan to use for other things then i have to find favor with the 22mag. i would probably even rather have a 22lr than a 17hmr....now i realize that the 17 blows the 22lr away balllistically.. when some talks of tacklebox guns for some reason i think of fishing and water and cottonmouths...here i find a 22mag or 22lr loaded with cci shotshells to my likeing for a tacklebox gun as no one makes a 17 shotshell,.....but please remember.........this is one fools opiniion...... my 2 cents is probably worth only 1.50 cents if that...

Thanks guys! I was also originally thinking of a .22mag with shotshells for exactly that reason...snakes. However, I was out one time and came across a cotton mouth rattle snapper, or some such variety, and shot him with my .38. It had the first chamber loaded with a shotshell and I hit him square, but he kept a comin' and I had to shoot his head of with a hydra-shok. I generally keep the first round of my .38 loaded with shotshell, as part of my theory that if the bad guy comes, I won't miss the first shot in the heat of the moment, and will gain the fraction of a second advantage to finish the job. I do not do this with my auto carry pieces, for obvious reasons (Glock doesn't reccomend firing shot shells in their guns), and I have more than the five rounds that my .38 holds. Anyway, thanks for the input, much appreciated.
