REM,, Those are some nice bears there. We don't have too many black ones here. The anti's over on the westside of the state got our bear baiting outlawed, so we don't bait bears any more. ;D But I have plenty of bear baiting stories. So does bearmanric. Bear baiting are fun, so I will tell the first story. In 1994, I fed the bears for two months. This was right behind our house, 100 yards from our patio. I got 23 different bears on video that year. I got outdated fish from a fish market, the day old bread store filled up my truck once or twice a week. Every evening about 6:00PM I drove my 4-wheeler from the hay barn on the road around the house to just across the creek. I stopped, filled up several buckets with bear chow, then went on up the road 1.5 miles to a friend's ranch. Then I filled up a few more buckets. Then I came home to watch and video the bears behind the house. One day the bread store gave me some lemon meringue pies. My son went on the 4-wheeler that day with me to feed the bears. A bunch of the neighbor's cows were out, and they were all over the hill behind the house. I did not know how this would affect the bears, and if they would come in with all the cows everywhere. But I filled the buckets and sat out a pie. Then we went on up the road to feed the bears at the other location. The road that goes by our house makes a double switchback that puts it right on top of the hill behind our house. From the second switchback, you can look right down on the spot where I was feeding the bears that year. On the way down the mountain, we stopped at the switchback to look down and see if any bears came in. There were about 15 cows scattered all over the hillside, but I did not see any bears....at first glance. Then I looked and told Wade, "One of Bennington's cows is eating that pie." He had the binos, and he looked closer. " Dad, that ain't no cow. that is a BIG bear." I took the binos and looked. Sure enough, there was a big bear right in the middle of all those cows, eating that pie. The cows and the bear paid no attention to each other. After I got that on video, we got on the Honda and started home. The pie and buckets were only 20 yards off the road, but uphill a bit. I slowed down to a crawl when we got close to the buckets. The big bear stood up on its hind legs and looked right down at us, with that white stuff on the lemon meringue pie all over his face. Wade whispered, "Oh my God". For a couple of seconds we were face to face with a huge bear. They look awesome when they are standing up like that. He slowly turned his head and watched us as we slowly passed by. And I know what he was thinking, "You got more pie." Bob

Sounds like Bears will eat almost anything, expecially sweets. Kind of like a hungry man.
