Today was the first day of the first ever Oklahoma youth deer season.......slick heads only.....no bucks......

I decided it was time for my 14 year old son to hunt on his own........first, because it was time and second, so my wife could bowhunt........

I dropped the wife at her stand, took the 14 year old into the place I had picked for him (on the ground, no treestand) and got him situated in a fold-up chair, then my 12 year old son and I went to a different place.........

I took my crossbow just in case a buck came by.....

Well, my 14 year old had a really big buck walk out broadside at 30-35 yards and stand around for 5 minutes....said he counted points through the scope and saw at least 10 without counting eyeguards.....if my wife or I had been with him....one of us could have taken the shot! I had been seeing large tracks in that area and had seen a nice buck near there a few weeks back.....guess maybe I need to move a stand to that area!

Oh well, it sure pumped him up!!!

That is one of the best things a man can do, is to take a kid out for the first time ;D. I'am taking one of my calients sons out this year for his first deer. He is 14 and I have one real nice 12 point and two 10's located.

This was his first time to hunt without someone sitting with him......he killed his first buck when he was 12.....but it's different when someone is sitting beside you...........

ahh yes its been over 30yrs and I still remember my 1st buck(been 15yrs and dont remember my 1st wife)

This is the new "youth season".....3 days.....antlerless only.......

The special youth hunt that Matt drew a tag for is next month.....prime rutting time and it's either sex.......

I'll never forget their first deer either......buck chases doe....buck stops.....bang, number one son shoots buck.....bang, number two son shoots doe......big smiles all around!!! Dad's smile is the biggest! ;D
