REM, Those are some nice mounts. I look forward to hearing some stories about your bear hunting. Hunting with a bow, you have to be up close and presonal. Its nice we have some bear hunters here on the Posse. We should have some good bear hunting stories on here this year. Those guys from Texas don't know what they are getting into. ;D Bob

here is the store on that bear.
I have been hunting bare for 12 years and been guiding for 3 year mostly friends and family. I hunt N.B.CANADA and mostly in the spring but last year took some hunter out of San Antonio We did all right 1 nice bear and a ton of small mouth bass. I think some of them had a hard time sitting still. But good time had by all. The Bear Mount is from 2 years ago spring. I hunted a big bear all week you know like I know the big boy don't came essay The 2 night of the hunt I sall two small bear but they had to stand up to get in to the bait bucket so I knew they were real small 100 to 175lb my stand I always put in the same tree the bait is under and I go about 15 feet up so my shot are real close. My experience is they never look up three trees the bait is under On Tuesday it was real windy and I find that nothing really bothers them but the wind, I didn’t see any thing Wednesday I had a monster 325 to 400lb come in and I know she stood every bit of 6 1/2 to 7 foot It was real nerves like I now the little ones don't want to get calt at the bait but this one was just to big to be worrying about anything it just cap looking back in to the woods and they are thick here and so I let her com down for about 5 min. and that is when I seen the cubs two of then about 50lb and new I didn't want to take he after they left just at dark I could here something moving around just behind the bait but could not see it And it got too dark after that. On Thursday nothing at all just red squirrel stuck in the greese bucked he got in but cold not get out and yes I did a stooped thing got down and helped him out. And right at dark I could here the noise agen but never seen it. I real did wunt a shot at one. So hers what I came up with Friday night is the last night of the hunt so I decided to hunt on the ground back in the brush so if he hold up tonight maybe I will get a shot so at about 3:30 I got to the stand and in the brush I went I could not see nothing at all it is that thick the only thing I can do is sit right on there trail I found a spot at about 30 yard in on it and sat down on a dead log the wind was in my face so I felt good on my set up. At about 5:00 I started thinking that this is the trail that the big bear and little ones cam in on! and that maybe she was so nerves because there was a bigger bear out in the brush the evening. And I really don’t know why this did not come to me sooner but too late now, Just at dark I here him coming and most of the time I don't but this one was a little noisy. I have about 5 min. of shooting time left and he is taking his good old time. And then I see him its a monster I sad to my self. Ok just come down, I keep saying to myself he is thirty yards down the trail and coming slowly. Now 20 yard and just as I wondered how I am going to make a dead on frontal shot he turned broadside and look in at the bait and I shot, the flight was good and I seen the arrow disappear in hi chest he ran in little circle moaning and trying to bite the arrow and then ran off. The next morning I recovered him He only went 35 yard and expired. and ok he was not a monster but he is a trophy to me! He was my third bear with a bow.

Sounds like you had lots of fun. Great story also. Big bears are tough, one mistake and they are nocturnal. You ever have any luck with the trackker and getting pics of the bears? Bob

Having never bear hunted, I've got a question When you climb outta that stand after dark, do you think about the bears coming in and a dark encounter as your trying to get outta the woods?? Seems like it would be a distinct possibility!

no not realy , if thay are in at the bait and you need to get down my trick is to turn on my flash light and i put the beem right on the nose and leed them away thay walk in the brush and then i get down if it is a shooter bear i just site there to he is full or the bait is gone, but i here what you saying , the trail to the bait that you walk in on is a bear run, trails that thay walk in on . bear are funny sometime thay are so smart most of the time thaywill here you no matter how sneeky you think you are,you hunting the greidy ones the real smart ones only feed after dark, (the real big ones) your hunting and hopeing that thay will make that one mistake you will need the thing about were i hunt is that it is so thick you could have a bear 5 feet on the side of the trail and never know it. if you could see how a bear comes in he is so nerves and jumpy for the first 5 min. or so that a any little sound or a swerl of the wind and thay are gone sometimes for good and sometime just for couple minets i always tell my huntersw to whait tell thay relax and thay will, thayeven go to sleep right at the bait if thay cence it ok, i will whait till thayput there back to me then pull my bow back and send the arrow p.s i have been known to drop a bloody boot on a new hunters trail after i put him in so he will see it on the way out , and it is a long way out and a time befor i pick him up he is my fist bow harvest - arrow -360 acc - bow-pse fire flite 100gr thunder head

hi Bobr i onley use the timer now . the photos i have gottin of big bear are all i ever seen of that bear. most were at night i think the flash spook them off i aloso think that at a bait is alittle diferent in that cubs are so qurece that thay always find it and you no the rest thay eat it . bob here are some of my tricks to size them 1. sand off the road under the bucket for a paw print. 2. greece from a frier in a bucket will give you a nice niose and paw print and buter yet i think whan thay go away after there done thay will leave a grate sent trail on there path of greece for ether bear. 3. i put my baits high that the little ones have hard time getting in them 4. i put somthing very hevy on top of the buckets so thay have to move it. and bob here is my secret stuff ,,100 percent liquid smoke get it at cooking suppler and put in spray bottle and spay the area it work wunders, i even spry my hunter that smoke here are photo of a 125 class that i got this year in philadelphia,, on my tracker

Kellyg, When I was baiting bears, I always made lots of noise when going into the bait area. If I could ride my 4-wheeler in and out I did. The sound of the 4-wheeler approaching actually attracts them. If walking in, I always talk to them, and when ready to leave, I bang the uckstes together. I can actually go into the bait any time day or night, and the bears start arriving as soon as I leave. When I had a hunter here on a bait, I would just go in at dark, rebait make lots of noise while the hunter left the area. Then I left. Bears will take risks at my baits, beacuse I do not have bait out where they can feed all night. I give them choice stuff that they crave, and they know that if they linger around after I leave, a small bear will clean it up. Usually the biggest bear in the area controlls my baits. He will not let the small ones arouind it until he is done. When I go into a bait, I often hear them breathing, or twigs snap. Once , I stopped to clean up some debree and a large bear walked out of the brush 20 yards from me. It stopped , then just moved back a few feet until I started to leave. I have ideos made by a friend where bears are at the bait within 30 seconds after I leave. Bob
