Went out to western OK this weekend and took a nice doe with the crossbow on Saturday morning.....then saw an absolute monster buck as we were driving out.....we got a real good look at him, he stood about 50 yards off the road and watched us watch him for several minutes......he is a typical 10 point in the 150-160 class.....the buck of my dreams!

so is this a place you hunt often? can you go out again for mr. big boy? Do you have a profile for crossbow hunting or do you just go during rifle season?

I get to hunt this property as a guest......not a place I can hunt on a regular basis but I will probably get to hunt it again at the end of rifle season......maybe the big boy will still be around?
I hunted with a conventional bow for years, but a shoulder injury forced me to go to a crossbow. In Oklahoma, a person must have a disability in order to hunt with a crossbow, my shoulder condition qualifies for the crossbow exemption.

Well I hope you get further opportunities there. I have been told that using a crossbow isn't that easy either. Is it hard to cock it? Just curious. I have calcified bursitis in my right shoulder. I can feel it coming on..lol

I use a cocking rope which cuts the effort required to cock the bow by 1/2.....
Crossbows are loud and cumbersome to hunt with but it beats sitting in front of the TV! They have the same effective range as a modern compound....in other words, you have to get close.
