Here is a link to the current processors that are working with Hunters For The Hungry. If you want to donate some meat, just click on this link to find the processor closest to you. www.tacaa.org/partprocessors.htm

A few years ago I was feeling generous so I took two deer to donate to "hunters for the hungry". They were going to charge ME a $50.00 per deer processing fee. As you all know. Your deer don't come cheap, then to have to pay to give them away? I don't think so. Not for me anyway.

birdoc,
Most places just charge around $25. You can call and check the price first in either the area you hunt or near where you live. There are also many locations where the Dallas Safari Club pays the fee for you!! Most of us that donate the meat expect to pay a moderate processing fee, but I agree, $50 is really pushing it.

I think that it's pretty pathetic that in a city with as many meat processors as we have, that only Presa Locker is the only one in San Antonio that is participating.

DG,
I agree with you. FYI-Broadway Lockers does not participate in HFTH, but you can donate meat at no charge with them for the local food banks if they are processing another animal for you. I have donated several does and hogs through them.

I know that last year Eddie's over on Nacogdoches @ 1604 was participating in Hunters for the Hungry. I wonder why they dropped out. For what it's worth, Farmer's in Boerne is an outstanding little family owned outfit, and a hard working bunch of people. I like to drop by occasionally for the old "freezer inspection". They get some whopper Axis in at times.

This is a very good program in which ever state you live! I live in Oklahoma and we have this program also, I have for years tried to give when I could when I got my freezer full the rest would go to them, Unfortunatly I was unable to give this year! I had a bad year with the deer! Here most of the places we take the to be donated, They grind all the meat into burger, There is a $10.00 fee which I do not mind paying, It was free for many years and you could pay to have the deer butched and take it as a tax write off if you wanted to, I do believe that $50.00 would make me back off from doing it though, Not that I would not want to but I'm not sure I could afford to, BUt no matter it is a good program I think!

Bluedog: I totally agree with you, it's an outstanding program because it feeds a lot of hungry people, who might otherwise go without a meal that day. I've seen the inside workings of a deer processing operation, and I have to say that $20 is reasonable, but anything above that is piracy. To me it appears that processors who charge $30 to $50 to grind and wrap the equivalent of a deer into ground meat are lining their pockets on the back of a charitable program. It's these outrageous "co-pays" that keep hunters from participating. Anyone who feels compelled to profit from a program to feed starving people, needs to seriously take a step back and get in touch with their Maker. It's just not right from where I'm sitting.
