Hi Guys, I managed to kill this hog last January (2003) in Southwest Texas using a 7mm mag and 127gr Groove Bullet. It weighed around 250lbs with 4" tuskers. Don

Thanks all, There were 13 of us hunting at a lodge in southwest Texas, organized by myself, of all people, lol. We all knew one another but a lot of us have never met before. I belong to a group of hunters from AOL that have been chatting in a Hunting Chat room for about 9 years now. I had the idea that we should get together for a "group hunt" someplace. After talking it over we decided on a group hog hunt in southwest Texas. I had been to this particular ranch in Jan 2002 and loved it. We had room for 16 hunters total and we had 15 booked to go but 2 backed out at the last minute. Of the 13 hunters 12 actually hunted. One good buddy of mine from Okla City, OK had back problems and just went to meet everybody and share in the good times, better known as harassment, lol. We all met in San Antonio on a given Thursday and we all went out to dinner at "Dicks Last Resort" in downtown San Antonio. If you have never been to "Dicks", you owe it to yourself to go, at least once. It was a fun time for all. We met in San Antonio on Thursday instead of Friday because a lot of folks were flying in from parts of the country where there is snow. If one of their flights would have been delayed due to weather they could still make it on Friday and go with us. As it worked out nobody had any flights delayed. Friday at 8am sharp we left San Antonio for the ranch which is located about 40 miles southwest of Uvalde, Texas. We all stopped in Uvalde for breakfast. I took the group on a slight detour in Uvalde. We headed north to just the edge of town to stop at a store to purchase some shot shells. This was the same store Jim (my buddy from Okla City) and myself saw when we went on a ram hunt north of Uvalde in March of 2002. One additional reason we stopped is because the sign out front says they sell BOOZE and GUNS. I found that absolutely hilarious. Anyhow, we arrived at the lodge around noon. We got settled in and went to the range to make sure our guns were still on. We had an early dinner and all of us were taken to box blinds for the evening. Saturday morning about 1/2 of the hunters were taken out. I told them that morning weren't productive. Nobody saw or killed a hog Sat morning. (Patting self on back, SEE? I was right, lol). We spent most of the mid day talking and harassing one another (hunters NEVER do that, lol). We did have one individual set up a clay target thrower outside and some of us shot a couple boxs of clay targets. After an early dinner we packed up and were taken out for the evening hunt. I managed to kill my hog at 12:30am and was picked up around 1:30am. I was supposed to be picked up at midnight but some of the other hunters had taken so many hogs that they had to go back to the lodge to unload. I was happy they didn't come to get me at midnight since I hadn't seen a hog until 12:20am. I watched 3 hogs for about 10 minutes as they ate the corn that was spread on the roadway. It was difficult to stay on one hog since they were moving around all the time. I wanted the larger of the three but it never presented a shot I was happy with. Then one of the smaller ones separated from the other 2 and when it went broadside I let it fly. At the shot it started left and then tried to turn and go right where the other 2 took off to. It basically made a semi-cirlce of about 10 feet and fell over dead. The shot results can be seen on the Groove Bullets web site. I was using a 7mm mag and 127gr EXP Groove Bullets. The hog weighed around 250lbs. The shot was lasered at 135 yards. All together 12 hunters killed 19 hogs, the most ever killed by one group on that ranch in 2 days. There were 3 hunters that didn't have any opportunities but thats hunting. So, 9 hunters killed 19 hogs. There is a group picture of all of us standing behind tons of pork on Ray Atkinson web site. I booked the hunt with Ray. If you go to www.atkinsonhunting.com and click on North America, then Texas, you will see all of us. We all left Sunday at noon and returned to San Antonio and flights back home. Another group hog hunt has already been scheduled for Feb of 2003 by the same group. I have a feeling it is going to be an anual event. Good hunting, Don
