Reading all these hog hunting stories and seeing all the great pictures has gotten to me. I have to tell about my most exciting hunting experience to date.
Two years ago me and three of my hunting buddies enter one of the local varmint calling contest. To make a long story short we saw1 coyote and managed 2 shots at it. That was it!!!! Anyhow as we are leaving one of the places we notice a small group of hogs in a wheat field about 600 yds out. Unfortunately we had already packed our rifles away in their cases and by the time we got them back out they had made it to the thick brush. We figured that was just some more of our bad luck for the weekend. We leave this place and don't go 2 miles and come across a single big boar out in a field. We stop and watch him run behind us and into another field that we had permission to hunt. The guys in the front truck take off after it and me and the other guy go around the other way just in case he turned back. They take off and we round the corner to get into position and low and behold there are 30 or so hogs RIGHT THERE!!!! Well the race was on and my old 1977 chevy heap was doing it best to cut them porkers off and give us a chance at taking one. Surprisingly the truck runs well enough and I cut them off. Keep in mind our rifles are in the hard case in the back. From under the seat (I don't recommend this) I pull out my S&W model 39 pistol in 9mm. I had two extra clips in my pocket!!! I bail out with the pistol and the lead starts flying and the hogs start scattering like quail. The whole time this goes on my buddy is standing there watching and laughing, instead of getting his rifle out. I managed to take down two good size boars, one right thru the heart and lungs and was out for the count. The 2nd was somewhat more stubborn and even though the 1st shot was right thru the shoulder he need two more pain pills before resting. Before receiving those last two pain pills he managed to put me back in the truck - all along my buddy is still standing and laughing even harder now. We load my two hogs and all of a sudden it sounds like World War III on the other side of the field. We never heard the 1st 3 shots that took down the big boar we first saw. What we was hearing was one of the guys with a mini-14 and 2 30 round clips taped together. We make it over to them and they had 3 hogs down. The big boar was soooo big the 4 of us couldn't load him in the truck. The other two were good size sows. We get them loaded and take about 5 minutes to calm our nerves. We stepped it off and the two boars I shot with the pistol were at 15 yds. I look back at this and wonder how I managed thru it without getting eaten up and I have no idea how I survived. Here is a pic of me and my two boars and my trusty 9mm pistol.
