In Jan 2004, 4 of us went to the Venado Grande Ranch (about 35 miles south of Uvalde, Texas) for a 3 day hog hunt. Of the 4 of us, 3 of us used Groove Bullets Steve, our FREE Hog Hunt Contest Winner was using a 25-06 and 101gr EXP Groove Bullets. Dave (a friend) was using a 270 and 113gr EXP Groove Bullets. I used a 7mm mag and 127gr EXP Groove Bullets. Steve (a friend from Ohio) was using a 300 win mag and factory ammo. Of the 22 hogs killed using Groove Bullets all were complete pass through. Steve from Ohio only had one pass through. The total count per hunter was: Steve (Contest Winner) 4 dead hogs. Dave killed 11 hogs, 7 in one night (the second night), Steve (from Ohio) killed 6 hogs and I killed 7 hogs. Below is a picture with some of the hogs. We didn't have the energy to pull ALL of the hogs out of the walk in cooler. From left to right: Dave, Raymond and his dog (the ranch foreman), Steve and Me. Below is a picture of the balance of the hogs, in the cooler. A great time was had by all. Don

Hey Don,
What a hunt!! Well done......... ;D
I do love those Groove bullets. I can't wait to get another 7mm-08 to use the loads I already have loaded to test.
It is too bad Venado Grande is shutting down their group hunts. I know y'all were doing this as an annual event.
Good Hunting,
Bob

Congrats Don and group! Man, that background looks a lot like Robert Lee.... Guess is was a lot cooler on this trip to Texas, wasn't it?? Kelly, Good to here from you, Buddy Actually it was cooler last year - Jan 2003. I won't say COLD because when I left home this past Jan it was 12 below zero, so 28 degrees is T-shirt weather. The first night was the warmest at around 55 degrees. The second night was around 45 and the last night it got all the way down to 35 degrees (light jacket worn that night). The first night there wasn't a cloud to be found and it was only one day past full moon so it was pretty bright out at night. The second night it was over cast untill about 10pm, then it cleared. The last night was cloudy all night. The weather, as we all know, can make or break a hunt. I guess we were all in the "right place at the right time" because everybody saw and killed hogs. Bob, As to Venado not having group hunts any longer - the jury is still out on that issue. Peter, the owner of the ranch has told me that he has yet to make the decision to lease the ranch. When he does, he will then iinform me if the people leasing want to conduct hog hunts for outsiders - like us. In the mean time I am not letting any grass grow under my feet. I am presently in the process of securing another hog hunt for 2005. I may opt for 5 days, versus 3 days. This other ranch is located near Utopia, Texas which is closer to San Antonio then Venado. Not that it matters. Don

Bobcat, send those loads up to me. I'll test'em for ya. I have been wanting to try the Groovy Bullets. I haven't had much success finding a load with the Barnes TSX that I am happy with.
