A couple of years ago while out varmint hunting, one of the guys I was hunting with pointed out a big pile of brush someone had pushed up with a dozer. This must have happened many yrs back, because the landowner now wanted them flattened back out. I never heard why, but instead of renting a dozer and pushing these piles flat, my buddy simply pours a 50 lb bag of corn down into the brush pile. He did this to several piles and left a few like they were. We were back a week later for some more varmint hunting and ALL of the piles he poured corn in had been torn apart and flattened out. The hogs had come in and rooted around thru these brush piles trying to get to the corn. In the process they flattened the piles out. On the place we have leased now, there is alot of cactus and we have gone around pouring corn in these cactus patches and the hogs come in later and rooted them up. They will also come back to these spots looking for more corn, which all you need to do is set up down wind and wait for the bacon to arrive.

You make a good point Coondawg - "They will eat anything." Inside these wood piles you will find grubs, lizards, snakes and who knows what else - its a buffet to them. I have heard hogs will kill and eat most snakes, even rattlesnakes. I have yet to witness that, but it wouldn't surprise me either.

I knew that they would eat just about anything, but rattlesnakes . Quite a few years ago my grandfather went to feed his hogs and fell in , and yes they went after him. These were domestic hogs but hungry.

O.K. Captkb... so the hogs can take care of the brush, cactus, and snakes... Will they take care of Gnats TOO? Coke County has to be the GNAT CAPITAL of the world! If we don't hurry up and get a freeze, my arm is gonna fall off from swattin those pests. I really think that OFF is an aphrodisiac for those buzzin bleepers? The one good thing about em is... they's gonna keep you awake in a deer blind!

::)I do... but those buzzin bleepers always find a way to crawl in that thing with you! I even had them crawling up my pants legs... Long sleeve shirt and gloves and they're still findin a way! There's no cattle on this place any more, so I think they're taking out their revenge! Who knows... there might be a 300 lb. GNAT dive bombing the place right next to that 300 lb. chigger

I thought about this for a real short bit and come up with the following. We may be able to learn something from our fat porker pigs. Before going to the stand walk down to the closest stock tank, creek, river, lake and wallow around for 10 -15 minutes. Be sure to coat yourself real good with slimmy mud and muck. Now go hunting. This is what hogs do to keep the bugs off them - bound to work!!!!!!!!! Man I am amazed at how good I am sometimes. LOL ;D

captkb, don't laugh I have a friend that doesn't spend money on scent blockers , he just finds a few chips out in the field and breaks them open and rubs them all over his clothes . Since he's been doing it he always comes back with meat for the freezer.
