Cojay, So far thats one thing I haven't done yet is hunt hogs with dogs. If anyone else on here has, I haven't heard them say. I do know you can get some real good info on another site that has alot of guys that run dogs on hogs - texasboars.com. Most of the guys there are from the East Texas area but they spend alot and I mean alot of time in the woods chasing hogs with dogs. I hope this helps ya out. Take care and good luck!

Lock & load.......here you go.....they run about $70.00. For 200 years, the boar spear reigned supreme as the staff weapon of choice in the forests and often the battlefield as well. Only the invention of reliable firearms in the 18th century could fade its renown. It would have disappeared altogether if not for the decadent tastes of the Northern European nobility. To them, hunting with a firearm was a pale substitute for the thrill of hand to hand combat in the forest with nothing but a spear. Now you too can enjoy the same excitement with Cold Steels modern recreation of this classic spear. Cold forged out of medium carbon SK-5 steel and heat treated to a spring temper, the massive blade is designed to flex under stress instead of breaking. It has an overall length of 18 1/2" and weighs a whopping 11/4 pounds! What's more, each blade comes fully sharpened to a utility edge and features a sturdy reinforcing rib to make it as stiff as possible for maximum penetration. The spear head comes with an extra stout premium ash shaft.

cojay that 11 pounds is probably not heavy enough for some of the hogs down here. Cold Steel also has a knife to use if you really want to go that way.
As far as using dogs are you talking about for tracking or all out hunting?
Some dogs are better for tracking (wounded game) while some can give a hog a run for the money. Look at the offical dog of Texas.
Now some of you are probably saying that Texas doesn't have a state dog but we do.
IM me and I'll tell you what it is if no one else post the answer.

Hey cojay, this is something that I have wanted to do for sometimes. If everything goes as planned...my first hog dog is in the oven. It will be 1/2 Mt. Cur and 1/2 Plott.

I use dogs to hunt pigs.It is very tiring but when you get on a pig it makes it all worthwhile. We catch our hogs live with a catch dog.My bay dogs are a catahoula and a black mouth cur.I don't keep a catch dog for one reason. My kids get attached to the dogs and sometimes catch dogs require lots of money in vet bills if you know what I mean.Everyone says catch dogs are a dime a dozen for a reason. But if you want one Pits and English Bulldogs are the best.Let me know if you have anymore questions.I'll be happy to try and answer them.

I got a question for you what is a Jagterrier and what does it look like? I was checking out www.boarhuntermagazine.com and noticed that most people use Catahoulas or some type of Cur cross.

www.ukcdogs.com/breeds/terriers/jagdterrier.std.shtmlTry this site. But they are small dogs in the rat terrier family, but some of the ones I've seen are very agressive hunting dogs. They might not be big but they have no fear.Don't see many people using them though.Just to small in my opinion.

Does sound like a good dog until you get to the size. Which dealership are you at? Might have to get with you on some stuff, having Bonco problems
