I hunted on a low fence ranch for three years before I got him. The ram-rod said it had hogs on it so I signed on the hunting lease with hopes of getting a braggin size boar. I shot a couple of good meat hogs every fall during the first two years and on spring break from teaching school. The third year on the ranch I saw one a couple of times that looked like he would go close to 400 lbs. but he was running across the sendero right at dark or would leave when it got light enough to see on the morning hunts. On the last weekend of deer season I saw him at the feeder but when my son moved to get a better look he bumped the side of the deer blind and he was gone again. This time I even had the rifle out the window but wanted Cody to see so I was foiled again. The ram-rod talked of the price of the lease going up so I told him to count me out for the next year. The next March he called and asked me to go fill feeders with him while I was on my spring break and since I was paid up till deer season I could shoot a pig so I brought my rifle along for the ride also. At 7:30 on the second day of our three day trip he came out of the brush and stood broad side at about 125 yards. This time my luck changed. When he stopped behind a big cactus I put the rifle out of the window. He took two steps and that was all I needed. I put a 180 grain nosler partition from my 300 weatherby right on the point of his shoulder. At the shot he squealed something awful. By the time I recovered from the recoil and chambered another round it was all over. One shot was all he needed. He weighed 385lbs. I had a full shoulder mount made of my long awaited trophy. Sure looks good hanging next to the fire place in our home. I never shot a buck on that lease but sure got a good boar. Don't give up big ones are out there but sometimes you gotta wait to get a good one.
