Ok all ya'll who shoot P-dogs for fun and sport, lets hear you brag a little bit. Whats the longest or best shot you've ever made? I'll start with mine today, I cant remember if its the longest but it was pretty good for me on a windy day. I shot one at 293 paces with a Tikka 695 in 25-06 with 100 grain factory Remington loads, using the pick-up door mirror as a rest. Its got me curious. Now I'm gonna have to go out tomorrow and see if I can make one a little longer I ought take this rifle out with me more often.

The best shot I have ever made was with DeadEye in Hobbs when I shot a running pdog at about 100 yards (maybe a 1000 yards:)) and killed it. The best part of it was I hit a barbed wire fence and broke one of the strands of wire. One part of the bullet hit the ground and the other turned out the pdogs lights.

Thats a good shot. I never could hit a moving target unless its with an AR or MINI 14 then its more "spray and pray" than any degree of skill on my part.

Yes Rancher that is a very long shot and now that you did it you will be trying to best it. It is addicting to say the least. Those boys that make shots past 1000 yards definately put in a lot of practice and have some nice equipment. Some day.....

Bob, I didn't notice your legs being that long My paces and yours must be some different cuz I just stepped off the distance and I step a shade over 3 feet per step so it was just around 300 yards give or take a little. Am I missing something or is a pace different than an ordinary step? Sorry for the confusion.

Hey Rancher, No confusion.......on your end that is. ;D I just mixed up feet and paces. A "normal" pace is 3' or 1 yard......I knew that. My brain just didn't engage. Still a nice shot......congrats! Bob

The best shot I've made was not my longest, but I shot a pdog right at 400 yards running for the hole. This was witnessed by Odie and mikie, I realize their credibility is sometimes in question, but they did see it. In fact Odie and I were shooting at mounds about 20 feet apart, he shot at one and it took off running I was already at that range so I swung with him at let it go, surprized me too. I was there when Odie shot his at a measured 926 yards. We had a hard time getting his head back in the truck it was so swelled up.

926 yards, that an incredible shot. What was he shooting with and what was the load? Maybe some day, right after I win the lottery, I'll be able to say I made a shot like that, course the one time I do I'll be out by myself with no one around to back up my claim. Thats the way it goes, though. ;D

Dead Eye is right. Now that he is a member he can get his ego plaque like the rest of us. Rancher I was using a Kimber 84m 22.250 with some handloads(55 gr.Vmx with 34.5 gr. Varget) topped with a Leupold 6.5-20x50. I nailed him on the 5th or 6th shot if I remember the facts. Just got lucky. Bennie and Mikie both got some that day around 910 yards. We sent the pics to VHA to get published. I am sure that when Pres. Bush sees the pics he will invite us to the Whitehouse fer chittlins and a moonshine wingding.

Anyone wanting in the 1,000 yard club just bring down your centerfire and lots of ammo. Deadeye and I would be happy to spot and get you there. Nothing like having plenty of targets and wide open areas to get that long range shot in.
I know of a recorded shot at 2,500 + on a prarie dog. It was at a tournament fired with a 25-06 and a canted based rifle.

I stretched one to 400 steps a couple of days ago, but I'm still a heck of a long way from 900+...........Dang, I guess I'll just have to load up a couple more boxes and practice some more. Sure do hate that...... ;D
