I'm far from an expert on blackbuck and I'm sure Doc can help us out on this but.... The mature males turn dark in the winter and the dominant male will be the darkest. I have also heard that if you take the dominant male outta the herd, the next in line will turn dark in very short period of time....

:)I got this picture back in August. We saw one of these guys 2 weeks ago and he had turned black. didn't get new pictures, just got video's.

Ok with age they will turn darker,and yes if you take the alpha male the next in line will fill in. As for him turnning dark its possilbe but it takes Age and about month for the coler change.

Their color also varies during the year. They are darkest during the winter months here in Texas.
