Gentlemen, I'd like to extend a big Texas hello to all of you and say that I'm extremely excited about this forum. I'm especially proud of the fact that it's a Texas based enterprise.
And just so you can all get a handle on what I'm about, let me offer a few details. The name is Dave Herne. I'm half Native American and half German/Czech. I've lived in Texas since 1977 (age 8), currently in Houston, where I work as a registered nurse (critical and emergency care). I'm married to a beautiful little Texas gal of Italian and Basque heritage and we have one son whose about to celebrate his first birthday. I started hunting in my teens with dear ole' Dad. But when he fell away from it due to the demands of his career in petro-chemical sales during the early to mid-1990s, my own hunting interests fell by the wayside as well. When Dad finally got back into hunting, so did I. However, it was from a new, perhaps much more serious vantage for myself. I now approach hunting by looking for opportunities to 'capture' game animals at increasingly greater distances. And I've invested heavily in the kind of equipment and training required to be successful to this end. Still, the thing I love most about hunting is the comraderie I've experienced among the kind of men who do it! Yes indeed, there's nothing like sittin' 'round the campfire and just chewin' the fat with a bunch of hunters. It's nice to be here, gentlemen!
Regards, Dave

Hello Hunters! By way of introduction I am a long time Varmint Hunter in the Northwest and Rockie Mountain states. I have been calling Varmints for 30+ years and Varmint Hunting for 40+! I retired at age 49 and moved to SW Montana 5+ years ago. I am now just turning 56 years of age. Among my new found and long time hobbies I include Varmint Hunting, Predator calling, Big Game Hunting, Archery Hunting, gun trading, gun collecting, shooting, hand loading (Rifle only!), knife collecting, western art collecting, photography, astronomy, rock hounding, fossil collecting, arrow head hunting, fishing (new to fly fishing - man is that fun!), medicine bottle collecting and I dabble in Waterfowl Hunting and Upland Game Hunting! I also have now taken 4 wild Turkeys using my Varmint Rifles (this is legal in Montana). I have Hunted the following types of Big Game - Elk, Mt. Goat, Moose, Mule Deer, Blacktailed Deer, Whitetailed Deer, Cougar, Black Bear, Wolf and Antelope. I have been succesful on all but 2 from that list (Cougar and Wolf). I have one animal listed in the Boone & Crockett all time records (Mt. Goat) but would not consider myself a trophy Hunter. I do try and Hunt the more mature animals though. My all time favorite Big Game animal to pursue is the Mule Deer! Aaahhhh! I have particularly enjoyed predator calling both day and night times and have numerous mouth calls and one 20+ year old electronic call that needs to be updated! I have gone through three batteries with it and the last time I used it it began - smoking! I turned it off and have made due since with my mouth calls. I currently own 35 Varmint Rifles and 2 Varmint pistols. I enjoy colony Varmint shooting with my all time favorite Varmint quarry being the western Rock Chuck! Closely followed by Coyote. Last year I expended 4,000 rimfire rounds on Ground Squirrels alone and around 2,000 centerfire rounds on Prairie Dogs, Rock Chucks, Coyote, Skunk, Porcupine, Fox, Ground Squirrels, Badger, numerous types of flying Varmints and various other Varmints and feral cats. I have Hunted Varmints in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota and South Dakota. I am looking to expand into Colorado and New Mexico soon as well as TEXAS! I have seen countless videos and TV shows showing the Texas predator Hunting and hope to get in on some in the next few years! This spring I brought online to my Varmint arsenal a Ruger 77/17V! This wonderful and wonderfully accurate Rifle is in the 17 HMR caliber and I have been extremely impressed with its lethality on Varmints and its accuracy! To date I have killed Badger, Rock Chuck, Prairie Dog, feral cat, Ground Squirrels, Porcupine, numerous flying Varmints and soon hope to bring to bag Coyote, Fox and Bobcat with it (when the pelts shape up)! This cartridge is an amazingly accurate, flat shooting and very lethal rimfire Varmint cartridge! I highly recommend it to anyone interested. The mild report definitely has its advantages! For a VarmintMobile I use my 1996 Dodge diesel extended cab with canopy (license plate VRMT GUY) to prowl the back country night and day year round! I especially enjoy Coyote calling in the vast area of eastern Montana but have taken as many as 3 Coyotes in one day here in western Montana. Looking forward to exchanging info and interacting with any and all of you posters! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

Hello- My name is Brenda and I live in the Central Texas area. I have recently gotten in to hunting varmints and love it. My fiance does the calling and he lets me do the shooting. He called a bobcat in and I shot him at about 50 yards out with a 257 Roberts. About a week later we called in a fox at the same location and I shot him with my 22. He is currently building me my own varmint gun which is a 22-250 with a Mauser action. I have learned alot from my fiance and everytime we go hunting I learn some more. We enjoy going hunting together. We go on a lot of trailrides and I also do barrelracing as a hobby.

Just found this site today. Looks like a great varmint/predator site. The e-caller comparison chart in the E-Caller forum is really great.
I live in Cypress, Texas which is a NW suburb of Houston. Originally from NE Wyoming but like lots of folks in Houston, an oil company thought I should learn to like humid weather. Been in Texas since 1980 and in Houston since 1989 and raised three kids here. Still working but thinking more and more about retirement.
Interest are guns, hand loading, hunting, fishing. I really like the smallbore stuff - 17 and 20 cals.

Howdy all, Names Carl, use the PM board and Huntmasters. Life time hunter, predator caller for a few. Have seen some of these names on those. Looks like a nice site. Carl Bearmanric sent me here, I do not know his name here.
