Well.......I made it back from Hobbs.....barely.....about 1:00 AM this morning.
To sum it up, BozoWise and Dead Eye can share my campfire anytime! We had a great weekend of predator calling and really put the Loudmouth through the paces.
We called everything from desert prairie, to sand dunes, to caprock. We ended up calling in 13 coyotes and one gray fox. We saw a group of mule deer circle around in front of us about 400 yards out on one stand. They were being pushed by a coyote. We also saw more antelope than you can imagine while driving to different ranches. As for the prairie dogs, let's just say you will never run out of target opportunities!
Bozo and Dead Eye both flattened their learning curves a lot this weekend. The first thing they did was get fold up stools to call from. This opened up a whole new world for them. They could actually see farther than 50 yards! Bozo got to skin his first coyote and strip his first tail on another one. Dead Eye dropped a couple at 250 and 350 yards. I guess all that prairie dog shooting at 500-1000 yards helps your distance shooting...hence the nickname, Dead Eye. They weren't used to having something within 50 yards to shoot, much less something as big as a coyote!
I can't say enough good things about the Loudmouth. I will post some more details in the Electronic Caller forum later. The most coyotes we called in on one stand was four. On another stand, we had a coyote right on top of the caller digging to get into the bush the caller was in to get at the bunny. Over on the caprock we called in two coyotes on one stand from different directions. We got to watch one of them come in from over half a mile away. On our first stand on Saturday, Bozo and Dead Eye dropped two coyotes within 5 seconds. Bozo took the first one that had come in crosswind to within about 50 yards. Dead Eye had been following one coming in from upwind and dropped him at about 250 yards within seconds of Bozo's shot. Needless to say, I was proud of the boys!! All of this was in spite of being busted on almost half of our stands by either opening day quail hunters or oil field traffic.
I barely escaped with my Loudmouth..........
I will post some pictures later today. Hunting and spending time with these two characters was a hoot and a genuine pleasure for me. I look forward to getting back out there to do some calling with them.
