Lonehowl dances around his living room with a burning sensation in his feet wondering what the heck is going on, as up in Alaska Todd is playing witch doctor on his Lonehowl doll by holding it over the stove top burner!!!! ;D

Do you guys ever buy calls, or just try and hornswaggle each other out of them! Sounds like some pretty good horse traders in the mix. My workhorse calls are an old Weems Coaxer and several calls from Haydel. Ugly and cheap, but some pretty sweet sounds. I have good luck with deer bleat calls and Haydel makes a really neat one with a dual reed. I like it a lot. Only howler I have is a Song Dog, but am not confident enough in the sound to use it. Might by myself a Cronk Howler for Christmas. Ozark Charlie

Actually Charlie we're not very good at hornswaggeling, but we do some trading, but mostly buying from each other. If you can be swaggled we would me more then willing to try ;D
Be safe, Todd

Actually, the people I trade with and buy from say I am so easy I am not even a challenge anymore. Most give me brother-in-law price, which is only 20% more than they charge a stranger off the street. OC

OzarkCharlie, I am thinking of offering a Cronk's "bakers dozen" special at about Christmas season. 10 calls for same price as 12.

Hey there Cronk haven't heard a lot from you lately, been busy? What do you recommend for a novice never called before?

I don't know anything about a Haydel coyote caller, but his double reed duck call is about as good as you can get - and all for less than $15 - no need to spend a small fortune for a duck call.

Sabre2th , I have indeed been busy. Trying to call a suburban cougar, keep up with call orders and problems with my electric garage door opener. I don't even want to go in to all of the "yes dear" stuff. I usually recommend an enclosed reed call for someone just starting out, because these calls are easy to master. A Burnham WF-4 or a "mini Jack" from old Fred Cronk at AZ predator calls would be two very good choices. Enclosed reed calls do tend to freeze up and stick in extreme cold, so carry two of the buggers. If you can afford it, buy a good open reed call to practice with in your spare time. A Crit'r call "standard" is one good one and those buggers don't freeze up in the cold. Well they do freeze, but when you stick the reed end in your mouth, your own body heat thaws it out and you can go right back to work.

Critr call "peewee" or verminator "tweety" are my two favorites.

Right now my Cronk howler has made it's way into my starting line up. For whatever reason, rabbit distress isn't gettin'er done, K-9 distress is. The last three I've called in have been using the howler in this manner.

Enclosed reed call it would have to be my Rhino "Texas Trumpet" made from Maple.
Open reed would have to be the Crit'R call Standard or my Cronk Deer Antler.
Howler I generally favor my Silver Dog or use my Crit'R Call Standard to make a young coyote sound.
