Ok, I know that most of us take a rifle or scattergun out in the field. Some take a handgun, if only for a backup or your main gun which do you choose and why?
Me I prefer a Colt Delta Elite 10mm, because it has the power to take down deer and hogs if I get into trouble. It is hotley loaded with a 200XTP. And now that I've seen Mt. Lion tracks at the place I plan to buy, I'll feel confident carrying it as a back up.
So lets hear about yours if you are not AFARID OF THE DARK ;D.

This year my walking around handgun is a S&W 629 Mountain Revolver .44 Mag. It is a 4" model and is light and powerful. I carry Hornady swaged 240's loaded over 7.0 gr. of TiteGroup for a moderate load that doesn't ring your ears too bad. Untested on big animals yet but I do anticipate shooting feral hogs with it very soon. (the corn and persimmons are fermenting for bait even as I type this)
The last hog I shot with a handgun was about a 70 pound sow with a .40 S&W Glock. First shot piled her up. It was a lucky shot that hit a little higher than I was aiming and took out a segment of her spine.
For formal deer hunting, this year I'm trying out a scoped Redhawk in .44 mag with some loads that WILL ring your ears. Cast Kieths at about 1500 fps.

My field gun is 30 year old 4" Ruger Security Six .357 Mag I bought new. It has been "worked on" a bit. This revolver is a part of me. I just feel good with it by my side.

back up is a 357 smith model 28 loaded hot, however for deer its a toss up between my 25 yr old 44 SBH and my equally old 45 colt BH,both loaded HOT.. Have my sights on the 500 smitty but they gotta come off the price and reloading will be a requirement at 28 and 35 bux for 12 rounds. Jack

I am either carrying a Colt King Cobra .357 or a Colt model 1991 A1 45ACP. I really like them both. I guess most of the time I carry the 1991, cause it's a little smaller and easier to carry.

Favorites are either a Ruger Blackhawk in 41 Mag or 45 Colt with very stout heavy for caliber cast bullet loads. Have carried 480 Ruger. Next year or sooner if the handgun gods are in my favor it will be the 500 S&W.

8-)Because of the rattlebug population in Coke County, I've been bringing along my 9mm Makorov. It's small and VERY LOUD! Oh yeah, it makes a big hole, too!

jd, you need to get a real gun , everybody knows a 9mm is half a gun. The reason I say its half a gun is because it shoots a 115 gr bullet while a 45acp shoots a 230 gr bullet, exactly half of the 45, hence half a gun ;D
